Ontime Logistics
Whether multi-part asphalt machines, pharmaceutical products, perishable foodstuffs or urgently needed spare parts: Specialist logistics company Ontime Logistics specialises in time-sensitive and exceptional deliveries in Europe and worldwide. To record CO2 emissions on intermodal transport routes, the Austrian freight forwarder relies on the Emission Charge web service from addHelix.
What were the challenges at the beginning?
Due to its specialised field of business, Ontime Logistics handles a wide variety of orders on a daily basis - by road, air and sea. Two long-standing customers from the automotive and aerospace sectors approached the company with a special request: they wanted detailed information about the CO2 emissions caused by their transport operations. It should also be possible to break this data down to individual products and partial routes, taking intermodal transport flows into account.
"We are observing that sustainability reporting is becoming increasingly important in many industries: In future, more and more concrete evidence and figures on the emissions generated will be required, including in the course of tenders. We want to provide our customers with the necessary data reliably now and secure our long-term competitiveness with this service."
Michael Filler, Director Air & Sea at Ontime Logistics
Why did you choose lbase as your partner?
Ontime Logistics has been using the lbase Transport Management System for more than 20 years. In order to fulfil the new requirements for intermodal CO2 routing, the company opted for another solution from lbase. The medium-sized company's internal resources are limited - so it was obvious to rely on a proven partner for the implementation.
The Emission Charge web service was quickly and easily integrated into the existing TMS using the addHelix Connector.
This was also important because Ontime Logistics quickly needed an efficient software solution. In the first step, the solution was introduced in the road sector and then extended to air and sea freight. "We worked closely with the Ontime Logistics team to optimise the functions and adapt them precisely to their specific needs and challenges," explains Marcus Eiser, General Manager Business Unit lbase.

Benefit
- Reliable calculation of CO2 emissions from deliveries
- Reporting of CO2 emissions for individual products and sections of the route
- Analyses for intermodal transport routes possible
- Data available in seconds at the touch of a button
How does Ontime Logistics benefit from the new solution?
The Emission Charge web service enables reliable calculation of the CO2 emissions of deliveries using an internationally recognised calculation method. If, for example, CO2 calculations for different transport variants are required to prepare a quotation, all the necessary figures are available within a few seconds. The special feature: The web service can also be used to calculate emissions for individual sections of the journey if required.
Intermodal CO2 routing is easy to use: As part of their workflow, employees are shown a yes/no option on the screen. If no CO2 calculation is required, this point can simply be skipped. Filler is very satisfied with the solution: "The data comes directly from our transport management system lbase. Being able to carry out complex calculations from these figures at the touch of a button - and on top of that intermodally, across different modes of transport - is an ideal solution for us."
"We worked closely with Ontime Logistics to adapt our solution to their specific needs. With the addHelix web service platform, we can integrate part of our DNA into the world of our customers so that they can benefit in the best possible way."
