Every centimeter counts when it comes to storage space and transport planning; there is no room for imprecision. That is why JÖBSTL has been relying since 2008 on a tailor-made freight measurement system to improve the effectiveness of daily work processes: the APACHE system combined with lbase logistics software. The manual entry and documentation of measurements and weights for all incoming shipments used to slow up the work process. Underdeclared shipments also resulted in substantial financial loss. Since 2008, each shipment can be quickly and simply measured and recorded using the Apache Portal system (automatic pallet characteristic detection) and analyzed and administered in lbase.
The JÖBSTL logistics group is a real lbase pioneer, and has been using the software as a transport and warehouse management platform since 1997. From the start, there has been intensive cooperation on the setup and enhancement of the software.
System interplay
The freight measurement system consists of a measuring structure suspended from the roof with an integrated floor scales, touchscreen, and wireless barcode scanner below it. After a truck is unloaded, the goods, including the load carrier, are positioned directly on top of the centrally located scales. As there are no barriers, a forklift can drive right up on to them. Both the load carrier and forklift are hidden if necessary so that only the load itself is measured. Using lbase TMS Scan - depot entry, the package is recorded using a handheld scanner and the measurement performed. Recording length, width, height, and weight for subsequent analysis in lbase becomes child’s play.
Two read heads mounted on a slide optically measure the goods, while a photo of the goods is created at the same time. The measurement results and gray image of the top view are then automatically passed to the lbase system via an interface interface. The data is available in the lbase system just a few minutes after the measurement process. The collo barcode is used to assign dimensions and weight to the respective shipment in lbase. In parallel to this, an individual freight measurement report is created and automatically assigned to the shipment. This can be submitted to the customer in the case of differences.
Deviations between the information supplied by the customer and the actual dimensions can now be shown in lbase at any time using the dedicated display modes, while the data can be administered at various levels in the shipment description.
The many benefits are clear:
Efficient freight data gathering, detection of underdeclarations, exclusion of differences in calculation, seamless shipment data documentation, load volume optimization, reduced process costs, and improved customer service.
